The Democratic National Committee announced Monday that it is relying on the expertise of Vice President Kamala Harris‘s former social media gurus to lead a new initiative to counter President-elect Donald Trump ahead of his incoming second administration.
The former Harris employees, now turned DNC staff, who helmed the @KamalaHQ social media team are taking charge of the new account @FactPostNews, which aims to push back against misinformation online and respond to news from the Trump administration.
FILIBUSTER FLIP-FLOP: SENATE DEMOCRATS READY TO EMBRACE THE TOOL TO STONEWALL TRUMP
“The Republican disinformation machine is powerful, but we believe a stronger weapon is giving people the facts about how Trump and his administration are screwing over the American people,” DNC chief mobilization officer Shelby Cole said in a statement.
The @FactPostNews will begin posting on X, Threads, and Bluesky before spreading out to other social media websites, including TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
Since Trump’s victory over Harris in November, Democrats have largely struggled to reimplement the “resistance” era of 2016 and 2017 when Trump first entered the White House.
However, the new social media push, along with a new DNC memo detailing efforts to fight back against the Trump White House, signals that the Democratic Party will be looking to battle the GOP throughout the next four years.
“As Trump’s billionaire Cabinet begins confirmation hearings this week, Democrats will hold them accountable for their lies,” wrote Rosemary Boeglin, DNC communications director, in a memo attacking Trump for “stacking his Cabinet with billionaires.”
FOUR ACTIONS DEMOCRATS HOPE BIDEN TAKES BEFORE THE END OF HIS TERM
Trump has leaned on more than a dozen billionaires to fill out his Cabinet or help guide Washington as he returns to power.
Chief among them is Tesla and X owner Elon Musk, who was tasked with co-leading the Department of Government Efficiency, while others have more traditional Cabinet roles, such as Howard Lutnick, Trump’s pick for commerce secretary, and Linda McMahon, the education secretary nominee.
The memo specifically cautions against Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress giving “tax handouts for the ultra-rich” through the reconciliation budget process and the extension of Trump’s signature 2017 tax legislation.
Several of Trump’s nominees are set to appear at Senate confirmation hearings this week on Capitol Hill. Democrats are aiming to use their new social media accounts to counter any fireworks that come out of the hearings.
“It’s clear Donald Trump lied to the American people when he said he would look out for working families and bring down costs – and we’ll make sure they know about it,” said Boeglin in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “As confirmation hearings get underway for Trump’s Billionaire Cabinet, the richest and swampiest in American history, the Democrats will be dogged in holding them to account.”
Axios first reported the DNC’s social media accounts.
