Disney has lost approximately 7.7 million subscribers to its streaming service in the last quarter.

There were 146.1 million total Disney+ subscribers, according to the company's third-quarter report, which is a 7.4% decrease from the quarter before. Most of the losses came from the Indian equivalent, Hotstar, which lost 24% of subscribers, while domestic subscribers from the US and Canada decreased by 1%.

However, streaming losses were lower than last year at $512 million. The company lost $1.1 billion the year before. Last quarter streaming revenue lost $659 million.

This comes as the company announced beginning Oct. 12, the service will cost 27% more at $13.99 a month for its ad-free version. Should subscribers remain on the ad-supported tier, it will keep its $ 7.99-a-month price. Even the bundle of Disney+ and Hulu will still only cost $9.99 a month.

ESPN+ will also increase its price by a dollar after the company announced it would attempt a "cost savings" measure by laying off a number of commentators. One anchor, Suzie Kolber, had been with the network for 27 years before she was laid off.

Disney similarly announced layoffs for 75 Pixar Animation Studio employees earlier this month. In February, Disney laid off an additional 7,000 employees in a $5.5 billion effort in cost savings, which represented roughly 3% of Disney's 220,000 global employees.

Disney recently partnered with an influencer who identifies as gender-fluid for a clothing ad, showing followers on TikTok how to dress like Minnie Mouse. The post from Seann Altman went viral on several platforms as users expressed their outrage. Some conservative figures subsequently called for a boycott of the company.
