NextImg:Did Democrats forget that Donald Trump was almost assassinated? - Washington Examiner

Democrats like to think they have a monopoly on the narrative of political violence in the country. Contemporary conversations seem to focus on a cult-like obsession with mentioning the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. However, for a group of people who claim to be concerned with political violence, the theatrics emanating from Washington would have one almost forget about the Black Lives Matter and antifa riots from 2020 or that there were multiple assassination attempts against President-elect Donald Trump within the last six months.

The Democratic propaganda machine was working overtime Monday to pump out messages focused on the “horrors” of the Capitol riot. Starting with President Joe Biden, who wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post, to numerous social media posts from Democratic politicians and left-wing pundits, the dramatic melancholy spewed from the Left rivaled the sadness that typically surrounds national tragedies. It was performative politics at its worst.

Democrats lamented the anniversary on Monday of a riot in a way they never commemorated or even acknowledged the dates of destruction caused by their supporters. It’s insulting, it’s arrogant, and it seems to be a core part of the Democrats’ contemporary political messaging. There may not be a better example of someone who engages in these deceitful and manipulative tactics than former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

While Democrats focused on connecting the Capitol riot with political violence and threats to democracy, Pelosi took it a step further during a Sunday interview on Face the Nation. She linked the riot to the assault on her husband and essentially blamed the attack on Trump, claiming that he commanded people to continue acts of violence. She tried to use both incidents to, once again, portray Trump as dangerous and a purveyor of brutality — almost as if she didn’t realize the country voted against this kind of fearmongering on Nov. 5, 2024.

“Now, it didn’t end that day,” Pelosi said about the political violence from the Jan. 6 riots. “As you know, [Trump] called out to these people to continue their violence, my husband being a victim of all of that.”

But nothing could be further from the truth. Moreover, has Pelosi forgotten the numerous events of left-wing political violence — just from the last year alone? Did she not remember that someone tried to murder Trump in 2024 on multiple occasions?

The former House speaker wasn’t asked to elaborate on this claim or provide examples, but her claims are untrue. However, it’s indicative of how Democrats have weaponized the Capitol riot and yet another example of how they constantly portray themselves as helpless victims of right-wing violence. Such reactions are little more than political theater and not legitimate concerns. Democrats have weaponized Jan. 6 to vilify Trump and his supporters as dangerous and violent.

However, acts of political violence are not exclusive to Trump supporters or people on the Right. And, as recent events have shown, it’s Democratic supporters and left-wing ideologues who typically wreak the most havoc and threaten the safety of others. Consider incidents from the last 30 days.

For example, it wasn’t a Trump supporter or Republican who assassinated the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. It wasn’t a Trump supporter or Republican who recently assaulted Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC).

Furthermore, no right-wingers try to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris. It wasn’t Trump supporters or Republicans storming college campuses and destroying college buildings in 2023 and 2024. Nor were they the ones holding numerous demonstrations around the country expressing support for a Middle East terrorist organization. And it wasn’t right-wingers burning down businesses and buildings in 2020.

Moreover, it was not a Trump supporter who attacked Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). It wasn’t a Republican voter who tried to gun down congressional representatives on a baseball field, shooting and critically wounding Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) in the process. Yet, the next time Democrats bring these events up in conversation the way they do the Capitol riot will be the first time. Jan. 6 was an outlier for those on the Right when it comes to violence.

Despite Democrats’ claims to the contrary, Jan. 6 was an aberration for Trump supporters and Republicans. Moreover, it paled in comparison to the sheer quantity and magnitude of violence and destruction caused during riots in recent years started by BLM, antifa, or pro-Palestinian protesters. The Capitol riot is amplified and embellished to help distract from the sins and transgressions of their acolytes and supporters.

No one should ever take the feigned actions of Democrats regarding Jan. 6 seriously. This is especially true given political violence almost claimed the life of Trump about six months ago.
