Just a few days after a supposed nationwide reckoning over the ramifications of political rhetoric, Democrats returned to their old inflammatory ways on Wednesday after bemoaning ABC’s decision to remove late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel from its network indefinitely for comments he made about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. ABC’s parent company is the Walt Disney Company.

Yet, while such reactions are expected, they are also quite hypocritical, as the people claiming outrage over Kimmel were conspicuously silent when actresses Gina Carano and Roseann Barr were fired by the same company that oversees Kimmel’s show due to comments they made.

As is often the case with the contemporary American Left, its furor is performative, disingenuous, and outright hypocritical. It is more mad that it was held to the standards it created than the action itself. It has regularly demonstrated that it does not like it when the shoe is on the other foot. 

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said during his monologue on Monday’s show. The comments did not sit well with network executives.

“Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets,” the country’s largest television station owner said on Wednesday. They announced they would “preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight’s show.”

In typical Democrat and left-wing fashion, they went apoplectic, resorting to hyperbolic hysteria, claiming Nexstar’s decision was a violation of free speech. There were doomsday prognostications, predictions of a coming apocalypse, fire and brimstone, and a plague of locusts. So, where was all of this when Carano lost her job? Where was the righteous indignation when comedian Roseanne Barr was fired from her show?

In those instances, restricting freedom of speech was permissible because the fired entertainers went against contemporary left-wing political orthodoxy. When those same standards of intolerance are held to one of their own, then all of a sudden it is a threat to democracy, a constitutional crisis, an infringement of rights, or whatever other nonsense Democrats are claiming.

Social media was rife with left-wing freakouts and Democrat claims of suppression, oppression, and an infringement of democracy. 

For example, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) called a private media company’s decision to make its own choice on what it wanted to air on its networks a “massive, history-making abuse of power.” He categorized it as an attempt to “destroy democracy.”

The Democrats’ official X account posted a message saying, “LEGALIZE COMEDY. FREE JIMMY KIMMEL.” This is quite hypocritical, given how much Democrats did to suppress speech, comedy, and entertainment over the last decade that they disagreed with. 

There are honestly too many examples to post of Democrats and others on the Left losing their minds over the Kimmel news. All one has to do is peruse any social media, and the hysteria is easily viewable. Yet all of this outrage, all of this anger, all of these condemnations were nowhere to be found when ABC fired Roseanne Barr and Disney, the parent company of ABC, fired actress Gina Carano from the hit show The Mandalorian in 2021, supposedly due to “controversial” social media posts.

Same company, different firings, much different reactions by liberals, Democrats, and others on the Left. It is indicative of everything one needs to know about Democrats and their grievances. It is all performative, deceptive, and manipulative. They don’t care about speech, rights, the First Amendment, or any of the other things they are currently whining about. They just don’t want to be held accountable for the environment and standards they created.

By now, Democrats should have lost all credibility when it comes to virtuous pursuits or defending people’s rights. They are not to be trusted or believed. Their idea of free speech is solely rooted in the ideology that the contents of the speech support.
