Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is demanding the Department of Homeland Security "immediately" terminate an official placed on leave whose Hamas support was unearthed recently.
The Washington Examiner first reported Wednesday evening that United States Citizenship and Immigration Services put adjudication officer Nejwa Ali on "administrative leave" after a Daily Wire report on how she worked prior for the now-defunct U.S. office for Palestinian Liberation Organization, a coalition including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terror group. Now, in a Thursday letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Hawley is asking for answers with regard to her employment — calling Ali's rhetoric "unacceptable."

"According to reports and publicly available records, this employee, Nejwa Ali, has a documented history of making virulently antisemitic, pro-Hamas statements, including in the immediate aftermath of Hamas’s savage attack on innocent American and Israeli civilians," Hawley wrote to Mayorkas. "These statements appear to cast severe doubt on her ability to impartially evaluate immigration cases.
"I am glad to see that she has now been placed on administrative leave — but that is not enough," Hawley said. "If these reports are accurate, you must terminate her employment immediately."
The revelation of the official's staunch anti-Israel sentiment comes as the U.S. government backs Israel on the heels of Hamas attacking the country and killing over 1,400 people. Ali posted on Instagram after the October attack, “F*** Israel and any Jew that supports Israel."
"Palestine will be free one day," she wrote in another Instagram post. "F*** APARTHEID Israel and any Israeli that supports that bulls***. F*** you, may Allah forgive you. and spare us the crocodile tears, I sure as hell give zero f***s."

Moreover, Ali, in one recent Instagram post, shared a graphic depicting a Hamas terrorist paragliding over Israel with the caption, "Free PALESTINE."
The official told Daily Wire investigative reporter Luke Rosiak in an interview, "I will abso-fuing-lutely celebrate them, ahole, f**k you," when asked, "Why did you celebrate the hang gliders?"

In his letter, Hawley asked Mayorkas how many immigration cases involving Palestinians Ali has reviewed, and also the number of cases for Jewish or Israelis she has handled.
The senator also requested information on "safeguards" in place "in the asylum adjudication process to remediate any abuses committed by strongly prejudiced immigration officers." Ali notably worked as an asylum officer for the DHS.
Following news of Ali being placed on leave, Republicans and immigration activists took to social media to express concerns over why she was hired in the first place back in 2019.
"Something is deeply broken with our immigration enforcement," Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) said.
"Who vets the vetters?" said Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a right-leaning think tank. "No one, apparently."

"Biden's DHS has apparently placed her on leave, which I hope is a prelude to firing her," spokeswoman Christina Pushaw for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said.
DHS spokeswoman Naree Ketudat told the Washington Examiner the agency "responds to congressional correspondence directly via official channels" and will continue to respond appropriately to congressional oversight."
