Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis will unveil a comprehensive plan to enhance the U.S. government's control of the nation's borders significantly during his visit to the U.S.-Mexico border next week, the Washington Examiner has learned.

The second-term Florida governor will share a "forward-looking vision full of solutions" for border security and immigration, taking "more direct aim at Joe Biden's failures," the campaign said in a statement.

"Joe Biden’s open border policies have destroyed our sovereignty, and Ron DeSantis will not rest until it is restored," DeSantis campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo said. "He will stop the invasion and secure the border once and for all, and there will be no excuses."

DeSantis will share his plan during a public meeting at the VFW in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday, June 26. The visit to the border is his second as a presidential candidate, putting him ahead of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who have each visited the southern border once.

He will tour the border in Eagle Pass Sunday evening and speak Monday about what he learned during the ride-a-long.

The DeSantis campaign said the announcement is part of a broader strategy to shift in his second month as a candidate to discussing the border crisis, as more than 5 million noncitizens have been encountered attempting to enter the country without permission and 2 million of that figure have been released into the country to await court proceedings for deportation.

DeSantis focused his first month campaigning touting his impact as Florida governor, including reopening the state swiftly amid the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and nationwide lockdowns and vaccine mandates.
