Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will commence a three-day retreat with donors and influencers Friday as 2024 speculation continues to brew.

The event will feature roughly 150 guests at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, which is a roughly eight-minute drive from Mar-a-Lago, showcasing DeSantis's efforts to court donors and critical support as he mulls a presidential run, a source told Reuters.

THE DIVIDING LINE IN THE GOP OVER TRUMP AND DESANTIS: POLL

On Thursday, a day prior to the DeSantis donor retreat, former President Donald Trump is slated to attend a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, which is located in the same island town. The timing is reportedly mere happenstance but could be a glimpse of what's to come between the two GOP stars.

Trump's cash haul in the six weeks after he declared his candidacy rang in lower than the six weeks prior to his announcement, signaling some financial headwinds for him as donors consider Republican alternatives.

Polls have widely deemed DeSantis to be Trump's chief GOP foe in his quest for the Republican nod. The Florida governor has suggested that his 2024 announcement will come after the Florida legislative session.

Although relatively tight-lipped about his decision, DeSantis has bolstered his national profile, recently wading into foreign policy matters as well as traveling to New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia to speak to law enforcement groups.

DeSantis is set to attend fundraisers in Alabama, California, and Texas. He also positioned himself as a crusader against "wokeism" by championing policy in education meant to clamp down on classroom instruction on matters such as gender that he deems excessive for children.

Eyeing his likely foe, Trump has begun stepping up his onslaught against DeSantis, sporadically lashing out against him via Truth Social, dubbing him "Ron Desanctimonious" and bashing his record on COVID-19, among other insults.

During a fundraiser Monday, Trump described DeSantis as his "enemy."

“I always say hit your enemy a little early," Trump said, according to Reuters. "Some people say don’t. But I say do.”

In the face of such broadsides, DeSantis has largely ducked away from getting ensnared in a back and forth with Trump.
