Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is set to be interviewed by CNN's Jake Tapper this week, as the Florida governor seeks to expand his lead in the Republican primary race.

The interview marks a change in pattern for the Florida governor, as he has been known to only give interviews with conservative-leaning outlets since announcing his presidential run in May. DeSantis's interview with Tapper will be held on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

TRUMP'S IOWA MISTAKES COULD PROVE COSTLY, GOP STRATEGISTS WARN

“There are people within the media who are still seeking the truth; we will engage with them," said Bryan Griffin, a DeSantis campaign spokesman. "And we look forward to getting our message out there to the American people.”

CNN's interview with the Florida governor comes after it has already held several town halls with other Republicans in the 2024 presidential primary race. Candidates who have attended CNN town halls include former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Amid the 2024 Republican primary race, DeSantis has spent nearly twice that of Trump, with the Florida governor's campaign paying Google and Meta roughly $1.8 million so far on digital ads. Trump's campaign has only spent $928,544, according to a report.

Trump and DeSantis are seen by many as the frontrunners for the Republican party's nomination for 2024, with Trump currently leading DeSantis in several polls. During a Sunday interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures, Trump said that he "possibly" saw a potential running mate for vice president in his fellow Republican 2024 candidates.

A recent poll, conducted from July 8-11, showed 61% of voters believe President Joe Biden is not the strongest candidate Democrats could nominate, while 53% of voters believe Trump is not the strongest candidate Republicans could nominate in 2024. Among the most skeptical about the two front-runners, Trump 2020 voters were the most doubtful that Biden is the strongest candidate Democrats could nominate in 2024, 84%, while Biden 2020 voters were the most skeptical that Trump is the strongest candidate Republicans could nominate in 2024, 76%.
