Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) expanded on his economic platform following the release of his "declaration of economic independence" in early August.
The two-term governor, who is in the middle of a campaign shake-up following a slow launch in the Republican presidential primary, was criticized for previously touting an economic platform that was heavy on platitudes and very light on details beyond "Florida-izing" the entire nation.

In an opinion published in USA Today on Monday, DeSantis broke his agenda down into three broad pillars: expediting the economic war with China, reversing President Joe Biden's legislative and executive directives, and further shrinking the "federal bureaucracy."
On China, DeSantis's plan embodies a growing sentiment in both the Republican and Democratic parties. Namely, reverse the trade deficit, crack down on companies that profit off stolen intellectual property, and incentivize companies to bring business and manufacturing currently based in Chinese factories back to the United States.
DeSantis does join a group of GOP China hawks, including Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Josh Hawley (R-MO), in calling for an end to China's preferential trade status, something neither Biden nor former President Donald Trump has done.
The two other pillars of DeSantis's economic road map are tightly related. DeSantis made cracking down on "woke ideology" the face of his midterm reelection campaign, and he similarly argued Monday for ending "environmental, social and governance investing standards."
"I don’t care if someone is trying to sell fossil fuels, firearms or French fries, there will be no ideological litmus test for getting a loan, establishing a bank account or running your business," he wrote.
DeSantis also promised to, on "day one," roll back "Biden's job-crippling and ideological regulations and executive orders" and extend the Trump administration's 2017 tax cuts, set to expire in 2025.

DeSantis's plan also notes his past declaration to reform public schools, the immigration system, and boost domestic energy production, all of which he claims will "unleash" American productivity and innovation.
"The goal of our declaration of economic independence is simple: We win. They lose," he wrote. "In America, we have everything we need to succeed. The only question is whether we have the will to force Washington to once again work for the American people. My promise is that I will always fight for our citizens, our families, our future and our way of life – and I will never back down."
