Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) accepted an invitation to debate Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) on Wednesday and is looking to hype up the matchup of political heavyweights.
DeSantis's presidential campaign has launched online ads that show the matchup between the governors of Florida and California as a video game.

The advertisements are live on various platforms, including Meta, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Google Display network.
In the advertisements, users are asked to "choose your fighter" or vote for a champion. The two panels describe DeSantis as a "champion of freedom" and Newsom as a "challenger California Dem." Other features of the advertisement include a knockout bonus listed as being "freedom" and the fight date being August 2023.
Newsom's team has reportedly proposed the debate be held in either Georgia, Nevada, or North Carolina on either Nov. 8 or 10. His proposal also suggested the debate be held live for 90 minutes with Fox News host Sean Hannity as the sole moderator and no audience present.
DeSantis accepted the invitation from Hannity on his Fox News show on Wednesday, saying he is "game" for the debate with the California governor.
"Absolutely, I'm game. Let's get it done. Just tell me when and where. We'll do it," DeSantis said on Fox News's Hannity.
"And here's the thing. I mean, in one respect, the debate between California and Florida has already been had, as you suggest. People have been voting on that. They've been voting on it with their feet. They have fled California in record numbers," DeSantis continued.

Newsom had previously challenged DeSantis to a debate in 2022 amid their feud. The California governor renewed his offer during an interview with Hannity in June.
DeSantis's team initially responded to the calls for debate by criticizing Newsom's "liberal governance" and saying "the debate is already settled." The Florida governor himself told Newsom in June to "stop pussyfooting around" and address problems in California while speaking at a press conference.
