The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District announced on Tuesday that it would eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives as part of the reshaping of the government of the district, which encompasses the Walt Disney World Resort.

The changes are part of a larger evaluation by the CFTOD board, which was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), into the district's policies that were put into place by the previous Reedy Creek Improvement District board, which was under Disney's control.

“The so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives were advanced during the tenure of the previous board, and they were illegal and simply un-American,” District Administrator Glenton Gilzean said in a statement.

“Our district will no longer participate in any attempt to divide us by race or advance the notion that we are not created equal. As the former head of the Central Florida Urban League, a civil rights organization, I can say definitively that our community thrives only when we work together despite our differences,” he said.

The district said cutting the DEI initiatives "will save millions of dollars each year."

The elimination of DEI is one of several changes made by the board since it took over in February, when DeSantis signed into law a bill that restructured the district's government. When it adopted a whistleblower policy for the district in June, district board Chairman Martin Garcia alluded to more changes in the future.

"You will see at our next meeting, and the meetings after that, that we will continue to add policies and practices to make us a legitimately independent entity," Garcia said.

The district is presently engaged in dueling lawsuits with Disney. The entertainment giant sued the new government of the district and DeSantis for allegedly having pursued a "relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials." In state court, the district filed a countersuit against Disney in an effort to protect its governing power. A judge ruled against Disney's attempt to dismiss the lawsuit in state court.

The feud between DeSantis and Disney, which led to Disney's central Florida district being restructured, stemmed from the entertainment giant denouncing the Parental Rights in Education Act, which DeSantis signed into law last year.
