A super PAC seeking to lay a springboard for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in 2024 is expanding its footprint into Super Tuesday states.
Never Back Down has begun to beef up its hiring to "include the first 18 states" in the primary process, a spokeswoman confirmed to the Washington Examiner. The move highlights the group's significant resources ahead of the governor entering the fray.
TRUMP'S LEAD OVER DESANTIS INCREASES TO MORE THAN 40 POINTS, ACCORDING TO POLL
“We are ahead of the game in expanding our operations outside of these first four primary states as the energy behind Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president and defeat Joe Biden in 2024 continues to grow,” Erin Perrine, the PAC's communications director, said.
The PAC insists it remains "hyper-focused" on the early four states with considerable staffing there, including roughly a half-dozen in Iowa. But the group sees opportunities to spread its movement elsewhere in the country as well.
One example given is that it recently signed up over a quarter of Republican state attendees in Oklahoma to "pledge their support to a potential DeSantis 2024 candidacy and to serve as volunteers."
DeSantis has not yet declared his 2024 campaign but is expected to do so within the coming weeks now that the Florida legislature has wrapped up its session. While testing the waters for a run, DeSantis has swung through key early states such as Iowa, New Hampshire, and more, touting his record in Florida.
He remains former President Donald Trump's toughest potential challenger in the GOP primary, though his standing in national primary polling appears to have slipped in recent weeks.
Still, DeSantis appears to have stronger favorables than Trump, has demonstrated strength in state-by-state polling, and fares competitively against President Joe Biden in hypothetical matchups.
Over recent weeks, the PAC has blanketed the airwaves of early states such as Iowa, backing DeSantis. It has recruited top GOP operatives such as Axiom Strategies founder Jeff Roe to help its efforts. Early last month, the group touted a roughly $30 million fundraising pull, giving it considerable resources to aid DeSantis.

DeSantis and Trump are poised to attend dueling events in Iowa on Saturday, with the governor headlining Rep. Randy Feenstra’s (R-IA) annual fundraiser and Trump expected to attend a rally in Des Moines the same day.
Never Back Down noted that DeSantis has "already broken records for the number of RSVPs" to the fundraiser.
