House Democrats’ campaign arm is targeting dozens of seats it hopes to flip next year as the party vies to reclaim its majority in the lower chamber.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced on Monday a list of 33 districts it considers “in play” for 2024 — two open seats and 31 held by Republicans.

The list is largely made up of battlegrounds from the 2022 cycle, in which Republicans managed to eke out a House majority despite underwhelming performance in crucial districts.

This cycle, the DCCC aims to draw a contrast between the agenda of “MAGA Republicans” who hold sway over the GOP conference and Democrats’ “track record of delivering for the middle class” as the party campaigns on the legislative accomplishments of the last Congress, including the bipartisan infrastructure law and drug pricing reforms.

“The vulnerable Republicans represented on this list have worked hand in hand with Speaker McCarthy to enable the most dangerous wings of their party to threaten our jobs, roll back women’s freedoms, endanger Americans’ economic security, and prioritize politics over people,” DCCC Chairwoman Suzan DelBene said in a statement.

Democrats will target eight districts in California, including a number of Orange County seats Republicans managed to hold on to in 2022. Also in their sights are six seats in New York that went to the GOP in a mini “red wave” that helped the GOP clinch its House majority.

Among them is Rep. George Santos’s seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) district, despite its R+7 partisan lean, will also be targeted after she barely won reelection in 2022.

Senate races in California and Michigan are forcing Democrats to focus on two open seats, in California’s 47th District and Michigan’s 7th. Those seats are currently held by Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), who have both launched runs for the upper chamber.

The list comes three weeks after the DCCC announced the 29 members of its front-line program, dedicated to protecting vulnerable incumbents.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has signaled that it will use the same messaging strategy it used in 2022 to target Democrats in swing districts, with an emphasis on the economy and public safety.

“Extreme House Democrats lost the majority because they hammered families with crime, chaos, and skyrocketing costs. Why would voters change their minds after Democrats spent their time in the minority coddling violent criminals and opposing relief?” NRCC Communications Director Jack Pandol said in a statement.
