Democrats are mocking Sam Brown, the Nevada Republican Senate nominee, for flying on one of former President Donald Trump‘s campaign jets alongside Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Trump’s running-mate. But that could be a tough line of attack: Brown’s opponent, Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), helped bankroll a “premier” airport in the Silver State that facilitates private jet travel, records show.
Rosen, a multimillionaire who has faced scrutiny for not paying her taxes on time, requested an $8.8 million funding earmark last year through Congress to revamp the Henderson Executive Airport. Ultimately, she helped secure $2.2 million for the project at the self-styled “premier” airport, which is located in Clark County, Nevada, and “was built to accommodate all private jets and corporate jet charters heading to Las Vegas,” according to federal documents reviewed by the Washington Examiner.
Still, Rosen’s funding of the airport did not stop the Nevada Democratic Party from taking aim at Vance and Brown this week for flying on one of the Trump campaign’s jets.
“You can’t make this up: Sam Brown and JD Vance are claiming to be champions for hardworking Nevadans – from a private jet. They’re not only hypocrites… they’re just plain weird,” read the Tuesday post, which was shared on X by Taylor Murdock, a Rosen campaign aide, and other Democratic staffers.
The Henderson Executive Airport, which Rosen secured funding for, includes a modern 24,000 square-foot terminal with amenities such as meeting rooms, a pilot lounge equipped with showers and beds, rental car facilities, and a full-service bar and restaurant, according to the airport’s website.
“The facilities at HND are tailored to the discriminating business aviation pilot and corporate clientele,” the airport’s website states. The airport came under the spotlight earlier this year upon local media in Nevada questioning where pop star Taylor Swift would park her private jet as she attended the Super Bowl to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, play in the game.
Meanwhile, efforts by Democrats to target Vance over flying on Trump’s jet could also be a difficult line of attack as well.
As she ran for president in 2020, then-Sen. Kamala Harris, now the vice president and presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on private jet travel, according to Federal Election Commission records.
