Democrats are embarking on a fresh effort to reclaim New York congressional seats that flipped red by linking Republicans to scandal-embroiled Rep. George Santos (R-NY).
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is the House Democrats' campaign arm, has begun a billboard campaign targeting five freshman Republicans who have taken money from Santos in the past, including Reps. Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams.

Since revelations emerged that Santos fabricated swaths of his personal backstory and resume, multiple New York Republicans have begun distancing themselves from him. Many have even urged him to resign.
Molinaro and D’Esposito relinquished money from him after it surfaced that he donated to them, CNN reported. The billboards targeting those two House Republicans ask why they accepted money from "a fraudster."
Billboards targeting the other three Republicans feature a photo of Santos posing with them and ask if they will return his donation. The billboard campaign cost five figures and began Monday, according to CNN.
Santos has refused to step down in the face of the mounting scandal and is even reportedly mulling a run for reelection. Some of his embellishments include claims that he earned a degree from New York University and that he was a "descendant" of Holocaust survivors.
“I’ve been a terrible liar on those subjects," Santos said during a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
New York Democrats have been vexed by key losses in a traditionally deep-blue state during the midterm elections. The party had sought to bypass the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission but ultimately drew a court intervention that resulted in a competitive map, paving the way for Republicans to flip seats.
Santos was among the Republican flips. He managed to flip a seat held by Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY), who tapped out of a reelection bit to mount an unsuccessful campaign for governor.
