Freshman Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) may have had the political intuition to co-sponsor the Laken Riley Act, but he is still a Democrat, which means his true loyalty lies in maintaining open borders, hence his tweet on Cinco de Mayo calling for a mass amnesty for the literally millions of illegal immigrants former President Joe Biden allowed into the country.
“Why don’t we make them pay a $5k fine, go through a background check and give them a work visa for a few years, renewable with good behavior,” Gallego posted on X in response to a story about President Donald Trump’s new program that pays illegal immigrants in the United States $1,000 to return to their home countries.

It has been less than six months since the Biden administration, which engineered the largest mass migration in U.S. history, left office. Over just four years, Biden managed to catch about 8 million migrants illegally crossing the southern border into the U.S. Biden released about half that number, 4 million, into the country on “humanitarian” parole. Additionally, Biden let in another 1.4 million illegal immigrants into the U.S. through his CBP One app and Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, or CHNV, parole programs.
That is 5.4 million illegal immigrants Biden let into the country.
In the first full three months of his administration, Trump has been able to deport just over 100,000 illegal immigrants.
That means Biden let 5.4 million illegal immigrants in, Trump has deported 100,000 of them, leaving us with 5.3 million more illegal immigrants today than when Biden came into office.
THE ART OF SELF-DEPORTATION
And now, after just three months of a secured border, Gallego wants to stop deporting illegal immigrants and give them amnesty instead. What message does Gallego think this would send to the billions of migrants who still want to enter the U.S. illegally?
Despite being just a freshman, Gallego has ambitious plans. He is travelling to the swing county of Bucks in the swing state of Pennsylvania later this week. It will be interesting to see if he tries to sell his new amnesty plan to Pennsylvania voters.
