NextImg:Democrats have betrayed the spirit and values of King’s I Have a Dream speech

Today, Aug. 28, commemorates the 60th anniversary of one of the preeminent Civil Rights Movement events, the March on Washington . Approximately 250,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 to support the civil rights of black people and end racial discrimination. It was where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech.

The iconic speech is unquestionably one of the most important speeches in the history of the world. It was where King listed the grievances of racial inequality that plagued the country and reinforced the notion that America had not lived up to its ideals and values presented in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. It inspired future civil rights legislation and a guideline to promote unity and attain racial harmony. It’s a speech that today’s Democrats should listen to again because their present sociocultural values go against everything King supported.

IT'S TIME FOR SEVERAL REPUBLICANS TO QUIT THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE

Consider the most famous part of King’s speech: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” It was a belief that one day, we would live in a society in which people do not first look at one’s skin color but instead one’s character and traits that reveal if they are a good person. It was a grand vision but one that contemporary left-wing politicians ignore. The Left’s efforts to support neo-segregation are the opposite of what King gave his life for.

The Democratic Party of the 21st century is the antithesis of King’s dream, prioritizing race above all else. They have destroyed King’s aspirations, instead preferring to judge people solely by skin color and devaluing the content of a person’s character as immaterial. They use race to demonize or pity people based on their privilege or victimhood. It’s a misguided societal evaluation system that goes against everything King’s dream envisioned.

Today’s Democrats are fixated on the past. While King mentioned the country’s racial problems throughout history, he focused on the future. King believed that skin color should not affect one’s place in society. He sought a meritocracy as the basis for racial equality in the future and a land where everyone could experience the American dream. It’s a vision that looks nothing like the race-first society Democrats have obsessed over in the 21st century.

Democrats have sought division, while King preached about unity. King fought for racial integration, but today’s Democrats want to divide people based on race and ethnic groups. King wanted a united America. Today’s Democrats want the people divided. King championed the greatness of the United States despite its flaws. Democrats claim the opposite, proclaiming the nation as irredeemably racist and destructive.

Today’s Democrats use the sins of the nation’s past to normalize racism as a weapon of social justice and revenge. They sow the seeds of discontent among racial minorities by demonizing white people as privileged bigots. They stoke the flames of discontent by wanting to hold white people responsible for all the sins of yesteryear’s bigotry. They’ve decided not to judge by the content of one’s character but rather the color of one’s skin. They are shattering his dream and attempting to destroy the nation out of their lust for political power.

It runs counter to King’s ideals. His vision embodied the spirit of the core tenets of the Declaration of Independence, that all are created equal. But today, Democrats don’t believe in equality. They believe in equity. They want to revolutionize American society to align with the ideals and values of people like Karl Marx, not King. King wanted unity and racial harmony. Today’s Democrats want division and anger. They think race should be all that matters. They want to keep races divided and support neo-segregation.

To uphold the ethos of King’s dream, our country must eradicate the contemporary culture of qualifying and judging people on their skin color. Viewing one another as equals, prioritizing everyone’s life, and permitting equal opportunity for all to pursue their dreams are what King stood for. In turn, they have negated King’s progress and values and shattered the legacy of his dream.
