Democratic candidate for New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani is really leaning into socialism. It makes sense, given the leftward lurch of the Democratic Party.
Mamdani, 33, championed by the media and celebrities, has vowed to enact policies fellow socialists Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and former Mayor Bill de Blasio could only dream of in their 30s. Mamdani wants to create city-owned grocery stores, but only one per borough. What difference will that make? Not much, initially, but it will be an entrée to more and other government-owned sectors of the economy.

When Mamdani was in the State Assembly, he pushed a dramatic rollback of laws intended to curb crime, including ending cash bail, decriminalizing sex work, legalizing marijuana, and creating safe injection sites.
Mamdani wants to end cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He wants to allow liberal judges to cut sentences for criminals by repealing all mandatory minimum sentences and reducing maximum sentences, with retroactive effect!
“We don’t need an investigation to know that the [New York Police Department] is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety,” he wrote on X. “What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD.”
In 2022, he declared, “We need to ban all guns.”
Mamdani wants to enact a $30 minimum wage. According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary rate in NYC is about $23 an hour. The current minimum wage is $16.50. Hotels, restaurants, services, and tourist shops are already staggeringly expensive. Just imagine how much prices will go up if Mamdani has his way.
This is who Democrats will be working to elect as the leader of one of the most important cities in America.
Former President Bill Clinton, arguably a centrist Democrat by the party’s standards today, posted on X, “Congratulations @ZohranKMamdani on your victory in yesterday’s primary election and a well-run campaign. I’m wishing you much success in November and beyond as you work to bring New Yorkers together to tackle the city’s challenges and shape a stronger, fairer future.” Clinton had endorsed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) for the Democratic nomination just days before.
There is no saving New York City from itself. If residents want to go easy on criminals, dramatically increase the cost of living, and injure the tourism industry (about 178,000 tourists visit each day), that is up to them. I hope former resident President Donald Trump won’t be bailing them out.
This week, Mayor Eric Adams called Mamdani a “snake oil salesman.” Adams is right, but he must explain why Mamdani is a fraud. Mamdani’s smooth talking and slick videos don’t make his economic theories any less absurd. If he gets his way, he will increase tolerance for antisemitism, be soft on crime, and drive even more to government dependence. He wants to turn one of the most vibrant cities in America into Havana, where residents drive cars from the 1950s, and nearly 90% of residents suffer from “extreme poverty.”
Democrats are going to do everything they can to get Mamdani elected. When they do, they own him.
“Congratulations, Zohran Mamdani,” the Democratic National Committee posted on X. “Onward to November.”
DEMOCRATS ARE DELUSIONAL IF THEY THINK MAMDANI PROVIDES ROAD MAP BACK TO POWER
Democrats are signaling the plans they have for the rest of America. If they can elect a socialist in the financial capital of America, there’s no telling what else they’ll try.
If the contrast between Trump, former President Joe Biden, and former Vice President Kamala Harris wasn’t stark enough, just wait until self-described socialists are attempting to get elected in every community in America. Then, it will truly be America’s time of choosing.
