Democrats’ focus on attacking Elon Musk rather than the mission of the Department of Government Efficiency is a messaging strategy, according to Washington Examiner Investigations Editor Sarah Bedford.
“It’s interesting to note that you don’t see Democrats going after what Elon Musk and DOGE are doing nearly as much as they’re going after Elon Musk himself because this is simply a messaging tactic,” Bedford told Fox Business’s The Evening Edit.
Democratic polling released this week suggests Musk is not popular with independent voters, and Democrats are trying to capitalize on that, she said.
At least 53% of people do not approve and 39% approve of the billionaire’s position as head of the DOGE, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.
However, 61% of people support downsizing the government, a Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed.

“Cutting foreign aid, cutting spending is popular, and so all Democrats really have right now is to go after Elon Musk personally,” Beford said.
“They’re really just trying to go after, to find some foothold to go after, Donald Trump because so much of what Donald Trump has been doing over the past couple of weeks of his presidency is popular,” she added.
