“I’m not running,” Moore responded, smiling.
“You’re not?” Behar replied, to which Moore repeatedly insisted he was not.
Co-host Sunny Hostin interjected to say he was “doing a pretty bang-up job in Maryland,” around repeated insistence that he would not run.
“Wait a minute, what if we really, really, really need you, though?” Behar said, provoking laughter.
Moore then sought to change direction, saying, “I’m really excited about the work that’s being done in the state of Maryland,” laying out some of his accomplishments.
The Maryland governor has been floated as a possible Democratic contender for 2028, along with other Democratic governors, including J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI).
GEORGE CLOONEY PRAISES GOV. WES MOORE AS RISING DEMOCRATIC STAR
Moore has skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years, recently earning an endorsement from actor George Clooney, who said he was his preferred candidate in 2028.
“He speaks sort of beautifully, he’s smart,” he told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “He ran a hedge fund. He ran the Robin Hood Foundation. He’s a proper leader, and Democrats, you know, the thing is, we see Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line. I like him a lot, I think he could be someone that we all could join in behind.”
