NextImg:Democratic fundraising booms after Biden drops out - Washington Examiner

In the monumental wake of President Joe Biden dropping out as the Democratic Party’s nominee, donations to ActBlue soared as donors shared optimism about Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy.

Sunday was the largest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle for Democrats.

“Since the President endorsed Vice President Harris yesterday afternoon, everyday Americans have given $49.6 million in grassroots donations to her campaign,” a Harris campaign official told the Washington Examiner. The Democrats’ main fundraising organization said donors raised $27.5 million in the first five hours of Harris’s campaign.

The fundraising boom will likely serve to level Democrats with Republicans in presidential fundraising, an area where former President Donald Trump had dominated in recent months with his assassination attempt and New York trial buoying massive hauls.

Harris, though she has not officially or presumptively been named the Democratic nominee, has inherited Biden’s massive war chest and will be the beneficiary of the colossal cash infusion. Some donors had frozen their donations to Biden until he stepped down, and now that he has done so, Harris will likely regain those donations as well.

The optimism is indicative of a changed presidential race.

“I just think that you’re going to see new excitement — you see it with the $50 million already raised, and she’s going to breathe some life into this campaign,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Harris will likely soon pick a running mate, and she could have to fight off challengers to gain the nomination. However, she is an overwhelming favorite, picking up several high-profile endorsements in the hours after Biden bowed out.
