Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre ripped Democratic leaders for shooting down former President Joe Biden’s reelection, betraying a “true patriot” seeking his chance at a second term.

Jean-Pierre, speaking to Harvard University students Wednesday night, called the mutinous behavior by Democratic leaders such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) “shocking, shocking,” adding that it was unprecedented.

“I had never seen anything like it before. I had never seen a party do that in the way that they did, and it was hurtful and sad to see that happening — a firing squad around a person who I believe was a true patriot, a person who I believe did everything that he can for this country, a person who I believe, as I mentioned before, has done more in his in one term than most presidents had done in two terms, historical things. And I was shocked by what I was seeing,” she said at the event hosted by Harvard’s Kennedy School Institute of Politics.

Biden withdrew in July last year, turning his campaign over to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who went on to lose to President Donald Trump.

Biden was on his way to picking up his second nomination when he was derailed by a poor debate performance against Trump and reports of mental failings. Top Democrats spent three weeks after the debate convincing Biden that he would doom the party if he stayed in the race.

In the end, not only did Harris lose, but both the House and Senate were in GOP hands.

Asked who is now considered the party’s leader, Jean-Pierre would not say, despite polling showing Harris in the lead among possible 2028 candidates.

Jean-Pierre said that the day after Election Day was “heartbreaking,” and she urged Democrats to take Trump on.

“People are hurting, people are scared. And it’s important that we show fight,” she said.

Like most Democrats, she continued to portray Trump as a threat to democracy and charged that he is a threat to press freedom, despite meeting almost daily with reporters and taking over 1,000 questions in six weeks, something Biden didn’t do.

Without any pushback from her questioners, Jean-Pierre said that the Trump White House move to expand who is in the White House pool is a threat to press freedom.

She also claimed that the Biden White House expanded diversity in the media and press freedom, ignoring that her office withdrew over 400 press passes of largely conservative organizations.

“What I am seeing now is scary,” said Jean-Pierre, parroting legacy media that feels threatened by the Trump administration’s inclusion of bloggers, podcasters, and influencers in the White House press.
