I am under no illusion that our allegedly right-wing elected officials can or even want to close the border, end the costly and unnecessary wars, balance the budget, protect the unborn, expand our right to bear arms meaningfully, or any of the other items promised every two, four, or six years.
However, there is one small measure Republicans can take that would at least signal to their voters they are interested in fighting back against the Left: defunding NPR. There is simply no excuse for sending taxpayer dollars to journalists obsessed with demonizing conservatives. NPR Senior Editor Uri Berliner was suspended by the publication after 25 years of employment for the sin of pointing out its clear and obvious left-wing bias. Berliner resigned on Wednesday. The journalist said he’s “not far off” what he describes as the NPR listener stereotype of an “EV-driving, Wordle-playing, tote bag–carrying coastal elite.” But he is still simply too conservative for NPR. How can that be, you might ask? Look no further than NPR’s new CEO Katherine Maher.
Maher, who took NPR’s top job last month, is a caricature of an angry, out-of-touch left-wing activist. Her record of tweets appears more like those of a far-left activist than a media executive. She supported looting during the 2020 race riots, can’t stand white men, and is known to let fly some real bangers like “Lots of jokes about leaving the US, and I get it. But as someone with cis white mobility privilege, I’m thinking I’m staying and investing in ridding ourselves of this spectre of tyranny.” Whatever that is supposed to mean.

Berliner pointed out in his piece for Bari Weiss’s Free Press that there are 87 Democrats at NPR and zero Republicans. This is what NPR is. This is who they have decided to put in charge to lead the publication through the 2024 presidential election, and it is high time to cut them off from taxpayer funding.
Allowing hardworking people to pay the salaries of Maher and her merry band of radicals is a disgrace. If Republicans can’t even defund NPR, I fail to see how they plan to take on the debt, the border, foreign aggression, abortion, or any of the other giant challenges we face in an increasingly perilous 21st century.
