A lawsuit filed by sorority sisters at the University of Wyoming was recently dismissed by a federal judge. At least six sorority members took issue with the admission of a transgender student who joined the sorority after "identifying" as female.

The student reportedly displayed behaviors that made the women feel uncomfortable, including allegedly staying in common areas for hours and staring at them without speaking, and displaying a visible erection while in their presence. The lawsuit also detailed an incident of voyeurism, in which the trans-identified student allegedly silently watched as a sorority sister, who was wearing only a towel, walked down the hall on her way to the shower.

I hear from young women frequently about the ways in which gender self-identification policies are negatively affecting their lives. Sadly, feeling physically unsafe and possibly being victimized in areas that were once single-sex has increasingly become the norm for them. Male-born students — who claim a female identity or otherwise — are likely aware they won’t face repercussions for predatory or lewd behavior. If anything, they may have confidence that sympathy will fall on their side.

There have been numerous incidents in which male-bodied individuals have exploited gender-neutral or identity-sympathetic policies to spy on or expose themselves to young women and girls. For example, in recent news, at a Wisconsin high school, an 18-year-old male-bodied student allegedly exposed himself to four 14-year-old girls showering after swimming practice, announcing to them, "I’m trans, by the way," upon entering the showering area.

Is it any wonder that so many girls today are desperately seeking to identify out of womanhood? The message they are constantly receiving is that they are second-class citizens, and their right to bodily safety, fair opportunities, and basic decency no longer matters.

New research published by the Journal of the American Medical Association found that minors between the ages of 12 and 18 accounted for nearly 8% of transgender surgeries. The most common surgeries in younger patients, including more than 87% of 12- to 18-year-olds, were chest or breast procedures. Genital surgery was undertaken by approximately 11% of this age group.

These findings were based on patient records obtained between 2016 and 2020, and the study noted that transition-related surgeries conducted in the United States nearly tripled from 2016 to 2019. The sad truth for many is that changing one’s body won’t fix society’s ills.
