NextImg:DC announces closure of COVID-19 centers after decline in new cases

DC Health announced on Friday that its COVID-19 centers will be closing on March 31 after the district experienced a decline in COVID-19 cases and higher vaccination rates.

The decision to close the COVID-19 centers was also influenced by the "increase in the availability of vaccines and testing kits for at-home use," DC Health said in a statement.

"Similar actions are being taken at the federal level and by other jurisdictions around the nation. The COVID Centers were established in January 2022 to provide residents with free and easy access to COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and masks at the height of the pandemic. Today, these items are readily available at most pharmacies, doctor’s offices, and other community locations," the statement continued.

The centers have distributed over 1 million free masks, 400,000 rapid antigen COVID-19 testing kits, 40,000 PCR tests, and 80,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, boosters, and the flu vaccine, according to DC Health.
