A senior official who has been in the Biden administration since the beginning of its campaign is set to depart.

Remi Yamamoto, 30, was a rare outsider among Biden's senior staff, according to CNN. The majority of the staff were people who had been close to Biden for years. Yamamoto served as senior adviser for communications to White House chief of staff Ron Klain.

Other administration officials stressed and praised her loyalty, saying she helped to keep the administration largely leak-free, especially compared to its predecessor.

“From the very start of the campaign, Remi has been unflinchingly loyal and extraordinarily capable,” Biden said in a statement to the outlet. “Her insights, good humor, and work ethic have been an incredible asset to all of us, and I am grateful for her service and friendship.”

Senior White House adviser Mike Donilon praised Yamamoto in a similar manner, painting her as an integral part of Biden's 2020 presidential campaign.

“She really internalized who President Biden is and what the campaign was about,” he told CNN. “There’s a DNA in this place that comes from what it took to get here.”

Though no reason was given for Yamamoto's departure, it comes at a time when most administrations experience turnover due to the onset of reelection campaign preparations.
