Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron spoke exclusively with the Washington Examiner about his fight against the Biden administration’s regulations and for consumer choice in energy use.

“We cannot outsource our energy needs to our foreign adversaries. We’ve got to maintain energy independence,” said Cameron, now CEO of the 1792 Exchange. “It’s hard to run a tractor on a battery. I’m in a state in the commonwealth of Kentucky where we are the seventh largest generator of coal in the country, and because of that, we have some of the lowest cost and most reliable energy in the nation.”

He added, “When the Biden administration or when hedge fund managers or asset managers tell you they want to destroy the fossil fuels industry by 2030 or 2050, my ears perked up because that is trying to destroy the competitive advantage of Kentucky.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is stepping down from his role as top Republican in the Senate at the end of this year and has not announced his plans for reelection in 2026. Though Cameron ran an unsuccessful campaign for Kentucky governor last year, we asked if he has a congressional seat on his mind.

“Well, before I answer any questions like that, I made sure to consult my wife, Mackenzie,” Cameron said with a laugh. “But let me just step back and say that, you know, obviously, I’m grateful for the service that our senators provided. Neither one of them made any judgments about the future. Leader McConnell said he’s stepping down from his leadership post at the end of this year but certainly hadn’t said anything about 2026.”

“What I often tell people is that obviously, you know, my wife and I will bank on this, this question and pray about it,” Cameron said. “But at the end of the day, we just want to continue to be the hands and feet of Christ and to help our commonwealth higher where we can.”
