Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) accused Republican lawmakers of being afraid of “MAGA” supporters amid ongoing political violence when discussing her call for increased security for House members.

Crockett said she does not feel safe “at all” in the wake of the Minnesota shootings that killed former state House speaker Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband after wounding Democratic State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. She said it is “really bad” how she has to account for her safety as a lawmaker.

Crockett then cited how $45 million was spent on Trump’s “little birthday parade,” a jab at the recent 250th birthday parade for the U.S. Army, and asked if this money could be “reprioritized.”

The Texas lawmaker then detailed a texting discussion she had with a Republican colleague, saying, “Your people need to fix this.”

“And there are Republicans that are concerned, and to be clear, they’re not really concerned about the radical leftists that they talk about,” Crockett claimed on ABC News’s The View. “They’re concerned about MAGA, because we saw the same thing happen when we had the speaker election, right? And so when people were mad about them not voting for Jim Jordan, they started threatening their spouses and all kinds of stuff.”

Crockett lamented how the general voting public does not like Congress despite polls showing congressional Republicans with the highest approval rating in 20 years., She claimed lawmakers are “duly elected” and are a key branch in the government, but are still viewed as “the stepchild.”

Also on Thursday, Crockett claimed in a podcast interview with Katie Couric that there is “a mental health crisis” in the country, arguing that “everyone” should be opposed to President Donald Trump. She also said that Trump’s leadership is “really sick” and that those who support the current president are “also sick.”

Crockett is in the minority, as a new poll finds Trump’s approval rating at a record-high 54%

POLITICAL VIOLENCE ON THE RISE IN THE US: A TIMELINE OF KEY INCIDENTS

Following the Minnesota shootings, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) has suggested that the FBI should be more involved in confronting online “rhetoric,” and said “there’s nothing like a visit” from the agency to get people to tone down threats. He has also urged increased security for congressional lawmakers.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) deleted posts he made online regarding the Minnesota shootings, one of which read, “This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way.” The senator has credited conversations with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for giving him a reason to take down his posts.
