For years, Democrats have allowed crime to flourish in cities throughout the country. Once-grand metropolises such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia have succumbed to the Left’s legislative lawlessness, turning the country’s great beacons of urban living into slums with a booming criminal underworld. Washington, D.C., is no exception, as the nation’s capital is rife with violent crime, and has been for quite some time.
Finally, President Donald Trump decided to do something about it and called in the National Guard to help Washington’s law enforcement units combat the city’s rampant violent crime. Democrats blasted Trump for this, of course. In their warped worlds, having people in the country’s biggest cities victimized by brutal criminal overlords is part of their ideological, left-wing utopia. They cited falling crime rates over the last year and called Trump’s move excessive; they labeled it authoritarian and claimed it wouldn’t accomplish anything.

As usual, they were wrong.
According to a social media post by the D.C. Police Union, crime in the city has dropped significantly since Trump gave those orders. The post showed that residents in the nation’s capital have been much safer because of Trump’s decision. While some may argue that correlation does not imply causation, a history of any city that utilized an increase in law enforcement officials to deter crime shows that the correlation is most likely valid.
In D.C., robberies have decreased 46% since Trump’s orders, according to the data posted by the D.C. Police Union X account. Additionally, assaults with a deadly weapon, known as ADW, have dropped 6%, automobile thefts have fallen 21%, and property crime has dipped 6%. Additionally, there have been fewer victims of violent criminal acts as well. Carjackings have dropped 83% and violent crime decreased 22%.
The facts show that, much to the dismay of Democrats, liberals, and others on the Left — including the protesters who lined the streets of Washington, D.C., last week, oddly voicing their displeasure at law enforcement officers seeking to make their communities safer — Trump’s actions have made the nation’s capital safe again, or at least safer than it was before he decided to deploy the National Guard. This is unquestionably a good thing, yet agitprops on the Left will either dismiss it or find fault with it.
Nevertheless, Trump’s decision to help D.C. police fight crime is another choice that benefits American citizens, despite the incessant criticism and attacks. The vilifications, pearl-clutching, and doomsday forecasting by Democrats were unnecessary, wrong, and nothing but a political performative production. Every person and every politician should support taking steps to protect people.
The Democrats were ardent supporters of doing so during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, when it comes to innocent people suffering at the hands of violent criminals, they are opposed. It’s an oddity that raises many questions, including whether Democrats actually care about the welfare of Americans or only pretend to do so when it is convenient for them.
