Sunday night’s annual CMT Music Awards honored the late country musician Toby Keith, who died earlier this year after a battle with stomach cancer.
The awards show featured several tributes in memory of the iconic country singer, with one of them delivered by his friend and former Major League Baseball player Roger Clemens, who was spotted wearing a “Toby” hat at the awards. Clemens gave his tribute by telling everyone to lift their red Solo cups, referencing some of Keith’s famous songs such as “Red Solo Cup” and “Beer for My Horses.”
“Repeat after me, everybody at your home, raise your fist if you don’t have a Solo cup,” Clemens said. “Let Toby hear you. Repeat after me, whiskey for my men and beer for my horses!”
Keith’s three children, Krystal Keith, Shelley Covel Rowland, and Stelen Keith Covel, were in attendance at the awards, though Keith’s wife Tricia was not seen at the show. Clemens expressed gratitude to the Keith family, thanking them for “sharing your dad with all of us.”
Beyond Clemens’s speech, several of Keith’s songs were performed live by various musicians. Among these songs were “I Love This Bar,” “How Do You Like Me Now?”, and “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”

Prior to his death on Feb. 5, Keith credited his faith in October for getting him through his health battle, calling it his “rock.” He also returned to the music stage in December to perform in Las Vegas, joking that he did not want to “let the old man in,” a reference to his song “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”
Days before his death, Keith was voted to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Feb. 2.
