Cory Booker suggests Democrats should focus on what’s ‘happening to Americans’ - Washington Examiner

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) contended that Democratic lawmakers should be discussing “the crisis that’s happening to Americans” as the party continues to seek a platform following the 2024 election.
Multiple lawmakers, including Sens. Angus King (I-ME), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Andy Kim (D-NJ), have argued that the United States is facing a “constitutional crisis” under President Donald Trump’s leadership, which came after many lawmakers deemed Trump a threat to democracy ahead of the presidential election. When asked if claiming that the U.S. is facing a constitutional crisis is an effective message to voters, Booker offered the suggestion to talk about how voters are being impacted by the Trump administration, citing how “one of the biggest hospital leaders” in New Jersey told him that his cancer research was in “crisis.”
“What’s crazy is crisis, when you have planes falling from the sky and you’re cutting FAA folks,” Booker stated on NBC’s Meet the Press. “It is a crisis when nuclear regulators are being cut. I could go through this. I have farmers calling me up, who put out tens of thousands of dollars on the understanding of the deal that they would get certain resources from the federal government, now threatening to lose their farms.”
Booker contended that “real crises” are happening in both red states and blue states and argued that Trump and Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, do not connect with the public. He also claimed that voters are seeing Trump “do things that make us so much less safe,” instead of focusing on lowering prices and the cost of living.
FOLLOWING 2024 DISASTER, DEMOCRATS LOOK TO RECLAIM STATUS AS ‘PARTY OF THE WORKER’
While Booker has been critical of DOGE and its impact on voters, former Minnesota Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips said Democrats are “missing the boat” on not getting on board with DOGE, expressing hope that Democrats will “actually work with Republicans to identify waste” within the federal government. He also said his party still does not have proper leadership ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections.
Earlier this month, podcast host Joe Rogan suggested that the Democratic Party has yet to undergo any “course-correcting” after the 2024 election, in which Trump won both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
