The Washington Commanders football team politely asked a viral Twitter account to change its name from "Washington Redskins."

The account bears the former name of the NFL organization.

BANK OF AMERICA FINED $250 MILLION FOR 'JUNK FEES' AND OPENING FAKE ACCOUNTS

With a bio reading "Hail to The Redskins," the apparent troll account posts Commanders-themed content, including highlights and memes.

"We love your enthusiasm for our team history on you account and all the throwback highlights you've been churning out — really awesome stuff and the fans have been loving it!" the official Commanders account messaged the fake Redskins account, according to a Tuesday post from the latter.

"We wanted to reach out, though to task you to add something to your Twitter name so it doesn't appear solely as 'Washington Redskins' — i.e. adding 'unofficial' or 'fan' — in order to avoid fans thinking your account is an official account of ours. If you'd rather talk about this further offline, we're happy to as well. Just let us know where and how we can reach you."

The post with that message was followed up with a GIF of Joaquin Phoenix's Commodus from Gladiator giving the thumbs down.

"I'm a man of the people," the account tweeted.

The apparent troll account continued that sentiment Wednesday when it sent a message to "the people telling me to abide by their wishes" via the words of the late comedian Norm Macdonald.

"No offense," Macdonald says in a video shared by the account, "but it sounds like some f***ing commie gobbledygook."

The Commanders dropped its former name in July 2020 after critics alleged it was racist and insensitive to Native Americans.
