Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) said they “are not messing around” when it comes to expectations that FBI Director Christopher Wray produce a form believed to describe a “criminal scheme” involving President Joe Biden.
“He was given three weeks to produce a document, and go into detail on what exactly they did to investigate the validity of the document. But thus far, he won’t even admit that they had the document,” Comer said of Wray and the FBI’s cooperation with a House Oversight Committee subpoena that requested information about a record that allegedly details ties between an unnamed “foreign national" and Biden during his vice presidency.
“[Wray] has given us the runaround for 3 weeks. He is just stalling,” Comer further explained to Hannity. “We don’t have confidence in Director Wray.”
On Tuesday, Comer said while he has a phone call scheduled with Wray for Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee will begin “taking steps to hold the FBI director in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena.”
“It is going to look very similar to what the Democrats did with Steve Bannon,” Comer said when asked what contempt of the FBI director looks like. “That was a perfect example of a congressional committee holding someone in contempt of Congress.”
In October, former White House chief strategist for then-President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, was sentenced to spend four months in jail and pay $6,500 in fines for contempt of Congress after failing to provide testimony and information to the House Jan. 6 committee.
“We will do everything we can to hold him accountable,” Comer added regarding Wray. “We are not messing around.”

In a statement released Tuesday, the FBI accused Comer of escalating the situation, calling the talk of holding Wray in contempt "unnecessary."
“The FBI remains committed to cooperating with the Committee in good faith. In a letter to Chairman Comer earlier today, the FBI committed to providing access to information responsive to the Committee’s subpoena in a format and setting that maintains confidentiality and protects important security interests and the integrity of FBI investigations," the FBI statement said.
