Many Democrats have tried to spin the rise in gas prices since President Joe Biden became president. From blaming former President Donald Trump, to the pandemic, to the war in Ukraine, to climate change, there have been many excuses from Democrats to rationalize the high gas prices.
And then, there are those like Democratic Colorado state Rep. Steven Woodrow, who seemed to insinuate Biden was not to blame at all. As part of his defense for such a claim, Woodrow posted a comparison of gas prices today with gas prices from 15 years ago. Apparently, in Woodrow’s mind, using higher gas prices from 2008 proved some kind of point, albeit an intellectually disingenuous one.
“Gas price today: $3.39 gal,” Woodrow posted. “Gas price 2008: $4.14 gal. Blame Biden right?”
It was an absurd post and another example of the Democrats’ desperate attempt to run cover for Biden. Cherry-picking gas prices from over a decade ago to hide the reality of the high gas prices under Biden was just a lousy attempt at defending the president. In addition to being incorrect about the gas price in 2008 (at least according to the Energy Information Administration), the post is evident he purposely ignored the gas prices when Donald Trump was in office.
And when a different account on X claimed that gas prices in 2020 under Trump were $2.17, Woodrow responded, “When no one was driving because we couldn’t leave our homes.”
But Woodrow was being intellectually disingenuous. It is true gas prices dropped during the pandemic due to a lack of demand. However, prices were much lower under Trump before the pandemic than they are today. Woodrow knows this, but he was being coy with the facts.

The average gas price during each of Trump’s four years in office was cheaper than today’s $3.39 price, according to the Energy Information Administration. In 2017, the average price of gas was $2.53. It rose slightly in 2018 to $2.82 but dropped back in 2019 to $2.69. In 2020, it was the cheapest at $2.26.
Woodrow was being deceptive with his comparison. He did everything possible to ignore that gas prices were significantly cheaper when Trump was in office. It goes to show the efforts to which Democrats will go and the kind of propaganda they will engage in to distort truth and reality to deceive and manipulate the public.
