CNN plans to launch its new 9 p.m. television show, The Source, hosted by anchor Kaitlan Collins, on Monday, July 10.

New details about the rising star and former White House correspondent's new show were released Tuesday night during CNN's Fourth of July coverage.

Collins's program will go head-to-head with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity.

CNN said it is aiming to have its new show “bring fresh reporting that adds new perspective to the biggest stories of the day.”

Little information about the show had been available until Tuesday. It comes after CNN navigated the exit of former prime-time host Chris Cuomo in 2021 and the disastrous shuffling of Don Lemon Tonight anchor Don Lemon to CNN This Morning last November, which eventually led to his ouster in April. Lemon had a well-publicized tiff with morning show co-anchor Collins last December.

During a discussion with co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Collins about the age of 51-year-old Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, Lemon drew criticism for remarking that Haley was not "in her prime."

The network began using Collins as a prime-time evening host and gave her the high-profile position of hosting a May town hall with former President Donald Trump.

Many liberal and anti-Trump figures in media and politics strongly criticized the forum.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) accused CNN of losing "total control" of the town hall.

Lincoln Project founder Rick Wilson likened the town hall to "setting a match to democracy."

"This is a horror show that we don't want a rerun of," CNN commentator Van Jones said on CNN the following morning.

A CNN spokesperson defended Collins following the town hall, stating that she "exemplified what it means to be a world-class journalist. She asked tough, fair, and revealing questions."

CNN CEO Chris Licht received the brunt of the criticism following his orchestration of the town hall broadcast. The announcement of his sudden departure from the network came a few weeks later.

Fox News Channel will also be making changes of its own. The network has planned a relaunch of its prime-time lineup following Tucker Carlson's surprise departure. Starting July 17, anchor Laura Ingraham will move to 7 p.m., Jesse Watters to 8 p.m., Sean Hannity stays at 9 p.m. and Greg Gutfeld moves up an hour to 10 p.m. EST.
