There are 10 days remaining for Crunchyroll users to file a claim in a $16 million settlement with the streaming service, which has been accused of privacy violations of its users.

The company was accused by users of disclosing their personally identifiable information to third parties without their consent. Crunchyroll has denied it violated the law but agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation on the matter. Dec. 12 is the deadline to file a claim in the settlement.

A person must have been a registered user or viewed a website, app, or service owned, operated, or controlled by Crunchyroll from Sept. 8, 2020, through Sept. 20, 2023, to be eligible for the settlement. Eligible users of the service must submit a claim online or through the mail in an envelope postmarked by Dec. 12 to qualify for a check from the settlement.

The check each affected user will receive from the settlement is expected to be roughly $30, but it could be more or less than that estimate, according to documents filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The final amount will be announced once the settlement receives final approval.

The final approval hearing for the settlement, in which subscribers will be able to speak about the proposed settlement, has been scheduled by the court for Dec. 19.

Further information on the settlement with the streaming service, including how to file a claim, can be found on the court-authorized website.
