NextImg:Cillian Murphy, Billie Eilish, and dozens of stars unite in video for Palestinian people

A video was released on Wednesday featuring a host of high-profile actors, musicians, and cultural figures calling for an end to the violence in Gaza and expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The video, part of the Together For Palestine campaign, was unveiled just hours before a major benefit concert at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.

Statements from celebrities such as Cillian Murphy, Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas, Joaquin Phoenix, Steve Coogan, Sharon Horgan, Brian Cox, Chris O’Dowd, Laura Whitmore, Benedict Wong, and Annie Mac, among others, are shown in the video. It has already made waves online, with social media users hailing it as one of the most unified and outspoken acts of celebrity activism in recent memory.

“Together, we know that the leaders of this country are complicit in the mass murder of civilians in Gaza and the West Bank,” author Michael Wayne Rosen says in the video.

“It’s important to speak out now, not when this is over. Right now, while it’s happening. For Palestine,” actor Steve Coogan says.

In the video, the artists urge people to pressure their governments, call for an immediate ceasefire, and support peaceful campaigns for justice.

“We have to tell the truth on behalf of the people of Palestine,” the group of celebrities declares in the video. “It’s always been the artist’s role in society to speak out, to risk speaking truth to power.”

The video marks a rare but significant public stance from actor Cillian Murphy, who has been cautious about commenting directly on the crisis in Gaza. However, the Oppenheimer star has recently been seen lending quiet support to the cause.

At the European premiere of his new film, Steve, in Cork, Ireland, on Saturday, writer Max Porter, who stood onstage alongside Murphy, directly addressed the situation in Gaza.

“Almost every single hour of every single day of that entire almost 800 days, a child has been murdered in Palestine,” he said to loud applause from the audience at Cork Opera House.

Murphy’s silent presence during that statement and now his participation in the Together For Palestine video have been widely noted as significant moments.

The video message is part of a broader campaign leading up to the Together For Palestine benefit concert, which will take place on Wednesday night at Wembley. The concert will raise funds for humanitarian work in Gaza through the Together For Palestine Fund, which will distribute proceeds via the charity Choose Love to various organizations.

Performers at the concert include Damon Albarn, Bastille, James Blake, Jamie xx, Sampha, and Palestinian artists Adnan Joubran, Faraj Suleiman, and Nai Barghouti.

“Together for Palestine,” the celebrities say in a blend of Arabic and English at the end of the video.

“Stop the killing. Ceasefire now,” they conclude.
