NextImg:Chris Sununu says he will decide whether to run for president 'very soon'

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) said that he will make his decision whether or not to run for president "in the next week or two."

The New Hampshire centrist has fashioned himself as someone who can unite and reach across the aisle and has repeatedly attacked former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner. Despite his apparent positioning for a presidential run, Sununu hasn't yet announced his candidacy, telling CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday that he still isn't completely decided.

Sununu pledged to make his announcement "very soon."

"So I’ve got to tell you, the one thing I’m looking at is, where can I be most effective? Both in terms of making sure I can be a good governor. I still have a 24/7 job. I’m one of the few people that...I still very much focus on my state, and the state’s in great shape, so that’s good," Sununu said. "I just want what’s best for the party, doesn’t have to be the Chris Sununu show all the time. It’s just what’s best."

He also claimed that everything was lined up for a presidential run, including support, financing, and clearing a path to win. Sununu says he is now only considering whether or not running would be "right for" him.

"That’s kind of what I’m narrowing down now. The money has been lined up, the support has been lined up, there’s a pathway to win," Sununu said. "All of those boxes are checked. The family is on board, which is always a big one. I have to make sure it’s right for the party and right for me."

He said that he would make his final decision in the upcoming weeks, likely sometime in June.

"I don’t do coy very well. So when I start doing something, I’m 120% in. So I think, you know, pretty soon we’ll make a decision, probably in the next week or two, and we’ll either be [a] go or no-go."

Though not a candidate, polls show Sununu's chances as slim. Three recent polls from Fox News, Quinnipiac, and CNN all had the governor polling at just 1%.
