NewsNation host Chris Cuomo criticized the Left’s attacks against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Thursday as having “too much heat” and “not enough light.”

“I know you want the scalp. I know if you hate Trump and hate everybody around him and think Hegseth is the worst person ever chosen as secretary of defense, you want him out,” Cuomo said on The Chris Cuomo Project. “It’s not going to happen. Not for something where there is no demonstrable injury to Trump.”

“It’s too much heat and not enough light.”

Cuomo’s remarks follow the reveal of a second Signal leak chat and Pentagon shake-ups, which have Democrats calling for Hegseth’s removal.

Cuomo said Hegseth may have been “sloppy,” giving information to unvetted individuals, and Signal is not the best place for openly discussing military operations, but the Left’s analysis is wrong in concluding that he needs to go.

“Why do each of those rules and don’ts exist? Because you can screw up s*** up. You can expose information, make us vulnerable, make troops vulnerable, take away advantage, ruin strategic considerations,” he said.

“Here’s the problem with the analysis. Did any of those things happen? No. The attack went off as planned against the Houthis and was successful. That’s the missing piece. Hegseth wasn’t paid off. Hegseth wasn’t giving information in a way that compromised people on the ground, that f***ed up the operation, that made it not go well.”

The secretary of defense doesn’t appear to care about consequences, and, no matter how badly the Left wants him to face them, he won’t for the Signal leaks, Cuomo added.

“It’s not going to happen, and you shouldn’t force it when you don’t have the high ground,” he said. “If it were a Democrat in the same circumstances, you would not be hearing the Democrats saying the same thing.”
