Former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie praised Vice President Kamala Harris for being “exquisitely well-prepared” last night and called former President Donald Trump‘s debate performance “a huge fail.”

“She was exquisitely well prepared. She laid traps, and he chased every rabbit down every hole instead of talking about the things that he should have been talking about,” Christie said Tuesday in a post-debate analysis on ABC News, the news organization that moderated the debate.

“This is the difference between someone who’s well prepared and someone who’s unprepared,” he added.

Christie, who dropped out of the Republican primary ahead of the Iowa caucuses this year, had a harsh critique for the Republican presidential nominee’s staff.

“Whoever did debate prep for Donald Trump should be fired. He was — he was not good tonight at all,” the former New Jersey governor said.

Christie praised Harris for her stage performance during the debate.

“She has a voice that wants to try to unite the country. And Donald Trump spent more time talking about people eating pets, people at his rallies and whether he had more or less than he did about the economy,” Christie said.

“That is a huge fail tonight,” he added.

“I think what we’re going to see is that Kamala Harris is now being seen by a lot of voters as a potential president,” Christie said. “That’s what she needed to accomplish tonight. Trump better get to work, or he’s going to lose this election.”

Christie continued his critique Wednesday morning of the debate performances in an appearance on ABC’s The View.

“If you’re not well prepared, then things can go off the rails pretty quick. Now, when you add to it that he’s just a really angry guy,” Christie slammed the former president.

“I got asked before the debate, which Donald Trump was going to show up and I said, ‘Well, in the beginning, the calm Donald Trump will show up because he knows that’s what he’s supposed to do in order to do well but this is not a solo act. This is an interactive thing and as soon as either one of the questioners or the vice president would get him riled up, he’ll go off,” he analyzed.

Christie claimed part of Trump’s problem is he didn’t prepare because he has a “limited attention span” and “doesn’t like working hard.”
