Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie slammed former President Donald Trump, saying his 2024 campaign, in the wake of a slew of indictments, is “not putting America first.”

The former New Jersey governor told MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Tuesday that Trump is instead putting “Donald Trump first.”

“That’s the great irony of this campaign,” Christie said, criticizing Trump’s patriotic “America First” promise to voters.

“The problem with Trump is that he knows no sense of history, no intellectual curiosity, and doesn't care whether he puts himself before the country at every turn,” he added.

Despite facing three cases that have seen indictments, with likely more to come, Trump has largely brushed off the Justice Department’s charges, repeatedly saying he’s being indicted for fighting on behalf of the public. Christie called that rhetoric “patently absurd.”

“How are the American people benefited by keeping boxes of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago?” said Christie. “They were there for him to continue to pretend he was president and show off for people who were on the back patio at Mar-a-Lago by showing them things he shouldn’t have been showing them.”

Trump could be facing another indictment coming out of Georgia as the Fulton County district attorney has said, “We’re ready to go” with regard to 2020 presidential election interference charges. If an indictment comes in that case, it would be his fourth.

The former president is already facing two federal indictments related to his alleged attempts in overturning the election and mishandling of classified documents after leaving the White House, and he's been hit with a New York indictment for alleged business misdealing regarding hush money payments to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.
