Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie continued to bash former President Donald Trump for failing to finish the border wall despite promising to do so during his 2016 campaign.

On Friday morning, Christie posted a biting response on X, formerly known as Twitter, to Trump’s Truth Social post from Thursday night, in which the former Republican New Jersey governor said the former president only built about 50 miles of the wall.

“Trump’s a big boy. Stop making excuses for him,” Christie wrote. “He said he was going to build us a big beautiful wall. In four years he got us 52 miles and not a single peso from Mexico. Congratulations …”

Christie’s post included a Thursday interview with Newsmax host Eric Bolling, in which he responded to Trump’s Wednesday interview on the network. After Christie got off the air, Trump called his former ally “sloppy” on his own social media platform.

“Wrong! I built almost 500 Miles of Wall, including the fact that some very dilapidated areas had to be completely demolished with new Wall then built,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He knows this but keeps repeating the lies. That is why he left New Jersey with a 9% Approval Rating, the lowest on record, and is currently polling at around 2% in the Republican Primary — with nobody showing up at his ‘events.’ Loser!”

Since the 2020 election and Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Christie has been extremely critical of Trump, especially his unfinished construction of the border wall. In the past few weeks, the two have been citing different numbers on how much of the wall was built to support their arguments.

Despite trading barbs, Christie is not gaining on Trump in the GOP presidential polls. A New Hampshire survey released earlier this week showed Christie tied with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) at 9% while Trump held steady at 43% among Republican primary voters in the state.
