Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie argued that his attacks against former President Donald Trump are not meant to be against Trump's base.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Christie renewed his attacks against Trump but clarified that his attacks were entirely against Trump personally, rather than his supporters.

"My comments are not about them. They're directly about him," Christie said when asked how he would persuade Trump's supporters that he isn't against them. "And the fact is, I'm telling the truth, and things that I've said; not even Donald Trump denies that they're true."
"I mean, let's just look at this as an example," he continued. "What member of Donald Trump's senior staff or senior Cabinet members would work for him again? Not one of his secretaries of state, not one of his secretaries of defense, neither of his attorneys general, not any of his chiefs of staff, not any of his White House Counsel. What does that tell you about what it's like to work for this man?"
Christie once again said that Trump lost his support on election night of 2020 and that the former president "abandoned" him.
"And by the way, he abandoned me, and others like me, who supported him," Christie said.
"I was the first one on board in 2016," he continued. "I chaired his opioid commission, I chaired his transition, I prepped him for the debates and '16 and '20. I did everything I could to support Donald Trump and make him the best president he could be. But he disappointed me, and he let me down."

Christie then went on to more in-depth criticisms, chastising Trump for his record as president.
"He didn't repeal and replace Obamacare with a Republican Congress when he said he would," Christie said. "He added $6 trillion to the national debt. He didn't build the wall in Mexico. He built 47 miles of wall, and guess what? We paid for every nickel of it ... and so when you look at the ways that he failed us, not even talking about his personal conduct as a president, how he failed us, he abandoned me."
