Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) lauded Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as a fighter Monday just before the GOP presidential hopeful announced his "No Excuses" plan to fight against illegal immigration.
"Gov. DeSantis stands as someone willing to fight for you," Roy said at a DeSantis town hall. "None of you, none of you, want to continue this lawlessness that we're seeing, and you want someone who will stand up and defend us."

DeSantis is that someone, according to Roy.

"Gov. DeSantis has proven that he's willing to stand up and fight," the congressman said. "In the state of Florida, they just passed strong border legislation. They just passed legislation to ensure we'll have E-Verify implemented in Florida. They just passed legislation to crack down on human trafficking in Florida. They just passed legislation to make sure you can't use driver's licenses and other documents if you're here illegally."
At the border, DeSantis has sent members of the National Guard to protect the nation, he added.
"He has sent Florida troopers to Texas to protect us and help us," Roy said. "The governor is standing up and fighting for us in Texas."
Roy's commendation of DeSantis came the same day the presidential candidate introduced his 'No Excuses' plan to combat illegal immigration.
Cartel members can slice through fortified steel beams at the border "with impunity," and there need to be "adequate rules of engagement" to mitigate that, DeSantis said.
"If someone was breaking into your house, you would repel them with the use of force, right?" the presidential candidate asked. "Yet, if they have drugs, these backpacks, and they're going in, and they're cutting through an enforced structure, are we just supposed to let them in?"
"I say use force to repel them. If you do that one time, they will never do it again," he said.

Policymakers in Washington, D.C., are "always chirping about this," but they never take significant action, according to DeSantis.

"So, what we're saying is, 'No excuses on this! Get the job done! Make it happen!'" he said.
"We want results," the governor said. "We don't want hollow rhetoric. We don't want empty promises. And so, when we go in on day one, we're going to marshal every bit of authority that we have. We'll work with Congress when we need to. We'll take executive action when we can, and it will be a day one priority, and you're going to see a big change very, very quickly."
