The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decision to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence “blasphemy.”

The Dodgers originally disinvited the self-described "queer and trans nuns” group from their Pride Night festivities on June 16 after criticism concerning the group’s overt anti-Catholic imagery.

However, the MLB team reinvited the group and apologized, promising to “better educate” itself in the future.

On Monday, the bishops encouraged all Catholics to join them in prayer “as an act of reparation for the blasphemies against our Lord we see in our culture today.”

"This year, on June 16 — the day of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — a professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lewdness and vulgarity in mocking our Lord, His Mother, and consecrated women cannot be overstated," the bishops’ statement read. "This is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy."

“It has been heartening to see so many faithful Catholics and others of goodwill stand up to say that what this group does is wrong, and it is wrong to honor them," the statement continued. "We call on Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart on June 16, offering this prayer as an act of reparation for the blasphemies against our Lord we see in our culture today."

The Dodgers’ decision to reinvite the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence has been met with criticism from some of their own players.

Pitcher Clayton Kershaw expressed disapproval of the team’s decision, saying he did not agree with “making fun of other people’s religions.”

Relief pitcher Blake Treinen also spoke out against the team’s decision, saying the group “openly mocks Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of my faith.”
