NextImg:Casey DeSantis promises her 'claws come out' over policies harming children

Casey DeSantis shared that protecting the innocence of children is a political priority for her as she launched her national Mamas for DeSantis organization in Iowa on Thursday.

The group's launch is meant to support her husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), during his 2024 presidential campaign. She previously launched a similar group that reached one million supporters during his gubernatorial campaign.

During her first solo appearance in this presidential election cycle, alongside Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA), DeSantis explained that the parental rights group was born out of COVID-19 policies in schools. Then it grew to reflect the Florida governor's outspoken stance on changes in curriculum and the materials contained in libraries.

“It’s one thing when your policies come out after us — the mamas. It’s another thing when they come after our children. And that’s when the claws come out,” DeSantis said.

Casey DeSantis went on to describe her personal motivations, which were born out of her fight with breast cancer, for which she finished her last chemotherapy treatment in January of last year. She claimed her husband was there with her for all six of her treatments to hold her hand.

"And then you realize that God has given you more opportunity to be able to live. When you're given that opportunity in life, what do you do with it?" DeSantis asked before pushing back against a Politico article that referred to her as a Lady Macbeth. "Do I care what a headline says? No. I care about protecting the innocence of my children and your children."
