The cleanup of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse will reach another milestone “within days,” according to Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD).

The Baltimore bridge collapsed in the early morning hours of March 26 after the Dali cargo vessel struck one of its support beams; less than two months later, the stranded ship is expected to be removed. Moore said on NBC News’s Meet the Press on Sunday that the ship should be cleared this week and the federal channel will reopen by the end of May.

“I’m proud that we’re on track, that by the end of May we’ll have that federal channel reopened, and within days, we’re going to have that massive vessel, the Dali, out of that federal channel,” Moore said.

He also remarked on how fast the recovery and cleanup process has been and stressed that authorities will make sure the bridge is rebuilt on budget.

“I think for people who are concerned about the cost, my thing is this. The American people will be made whole on this. And we just had to make sure that we had to get it done fast, and on time, and on budget. And that’s our focus,” Moore said.

Part of the collapsed bridge still in the river was hit with demolition charges last week, with the explosives meant to help free the stuck vessel.

The collapse resulted in the deaths of six construction workers who were on the structure when it went down. Rescuers have been able to recover all six bodies.
