Massachusetts will likely see an uptick in “theybies” next year.
An amendment included in the Massachusetts fiscal 2025 budget orders all state documents to include a “gender X” option, giving each department of state government until the start of next year to implement a plan to make it happen.
The changes “enable parents and caregivers to choose a nonbinary option on their child’s birth certificate,” according to a press release from state Rep. Mindy Domb, the Democrat who filed the amendment. So, her amendment will let parents legally identify their newborn babies as nonbinary from the moment of birth.
It is an absurd provision. Nonbinary identity is not based in reality, and 65% of people know that only two genders exist, according to a PRRI poll. Determining what is male and female is easy, as chromosomes and genitalia tell us that.
Some argue that intersex people constitute different categories, but that is not the case. Physically, intersex people typically align with one gender more than the other, and most do not identify as transgender or nonbinary.
It is even worse to put this made-up identity on a newborn baby with no idea what “nonbinary” means. Vital records, including birth certificates, should document reality, not the delusions of “woke” parents. Lawmakers who affirm these delusions will create confused children, as environmental factors contribute to problems such as gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia, among other mental health troubles.
What Massachusetts is doing is just the latest attempt to push this nonsensical identity onto children.
Drag queen story hour events, hosted by local public libraries on the taxpayer’s dime, do the same. One book these men in drag often read to small children is Neither, a book about an animal born in a society of blue bunnies and yellow birds that fails to fit into the society’s binary system. The protagonist is a green creature with bird wings and legs, plus rabbit ears.
Children’s television shows also push this delusion. Shows such as Ridley Jones, Transformers: EarthSpark, and Rubble & Crew, which is a PAW Patrol spinoff, have featured characters that identify as nonbinary while attempting to explain gender ideology to children.

Schools also push this absurdity, be it via nonbinary gender options on student registration forms, teachers using the Mx. honorific, teachers asking students for their preferred pronouns, or teaching small children that more than two genders exist. Arlington Public Schools in Massachusetts use the “gender unicorn” to teach fourth graders that gender exists on a spectrum and is limitless. The district is one of many statewide to use either the “gender unicorn” or “genderbread person” to push this ideology onto children.
What happened to letting kids be kids? Politicians, educators, drag queens, and the entertainment industry should stop foisting “woke” gender ideology onto children. In doing so, they are feeding children harmful lies that defy reality.
