NextImg:California Democrats want to deceive voters concerned about crime - Washington Examiner

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and his Democratic colleagues in the California legislature are apparently determined to manipulate voters using every available tool so they can ensure that the state’s pro-criminal policies remain intact.

Two weeks ago, California Democrats were trying to bribe retailers into pulling their support for the repeal of the state’s pro-criminal Proposition 47. Last week, word leaked that Newsom was open to reforms to Proposition 47 — but only at the end of his final term in office and definitely not this year as it would supposedly politically harm Democrats in congressional races. Now, according to local Sacramento outlet KCRA 3, Democrats are planning to put a crime-related proposition on the ballot alongside the Proposition 47 repeal measure.

The purpose of this is quite clear. By slapping another crime-related ballot measure alongside Proposition 47 repeal, the goal is to confuse voters and to peel off Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters who are concerned with crime so they will back a Newsom-backed crime measure and not the measure repealing Proposition 47. That repeal measure will almost certainly then be painted as a right-wing MAGA movement, which is what Newsom did with the recall effort against him.

You can bet that the deceptive and manipulative tactics will not end here, either. California’s attorneys general have a history of writing biased or confusing ballot summaries for propositions to help ensure that the party’s preferred outcome comes to pass. In 2018, then-Attorney General Xavier Becerra wrote an intentionally confusing summary for gas tax repeal to ensure the repeal failed, an 11-percentage-point swing from the polling. Attorney General Rob Bonta has already flexed this power this year, describing a measure that would ensure girls do not have to share locker rooms or sports with boys as the “Restricts Rights of Transgender Youth Initiative.”

Proposition 47 repeal will get its own deceptive labeling, likely in tandem with a glowing description of Newsom’s alleged alternative that state Democrats would be rushing to get to the ballot. The entire strategy of California Democrats rests on confusing voters and undermining their wishes, and it is all on behalf of the criminals who benefit from Proposition 47 by avoiding jail time.
