NextImg:California celebrates transgender adults and sacrifices young girls

The new leftist mayor in San Francisco, Daniel Lurie, took time over the Labor Day weekend to tout the world’s first and only transgender neighborhood.

The new neighborhood’s Facebook page declares, ”The Transgender District is the first legally recognized transgender district in the world. Preserving the legacy of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots of 1966, the district is based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.“ Mayor Lurie highlighted that the city will be creating murals to showcase the history and heroes of the transgender movement.

The comments on the post were mixed. Many stated the obvious that maybe the entire district should be cleaned up and made safer for all. Others questioned why, of all the issues plaguing this once great city, this is the one that the mayor has decided to focus his attention on because this celebration of adult transgender citizens shouldn’t be viewed in a vacuum.

This same week in Southern California, for example, a middle school in Temecula saw dozens of middle school girls stage a walkout over their discomfort and anxiety that boys are being able to use their restrooms and locker rooms. Parents and students were upset that “On Aug. 26, in a 4-1 vote, the school board shelved two measures that would have created rules for students seeking mental health or religious exemptions from sharing facilities with transgender peers.”

Instead of showcasing the brave feminism of these tween and teenage girls, the media response was largely silent. Politicians chose to ignore them. Instead, politicians and social media activists are touting inaccurate information that trans people are subjected to increasingly severe discrimination, harassment, and violence.

But the data doesn’t show this. Unfortunately, members of the LGBTQ+ community are sometimes targeted for violence or intimidation. And that’s bad. But as a community, they do not suffer as much harassment as black women and Jews suffer in California. According to the Anti-Defamation League, “The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations reported a 91% increase in anti-Jewish hate crimes in 2023, the largest number ever recorded.“ Following New York, California had the highest number of antisemitic attacks.

Similarly, California middle school girls are among the most fearful of being bullied or harassed. Statistically, they are the most likely to experience physical violence or emotional abuse among other American students between the ages of 12 and 14. So why does the left continue to ignore the plight of young girls in favor of transgender adults?

Why can’t we live in a world where the left focuses on all those in need instead of a select few?
